From Declaration to Change: Addressing Racism as a PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS

2021 STAND AGAINST RACISM

Watch the event here:

YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities. At YWCA, we get up and do the work until injustice is rooted out, until institutions are transformed, until the world sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do: EQUAL. POWERFUL. UNSTOPPABLE.

Our mission lives in the soul of everyone at YWCA, because we demand a world of equity and human decency. Will you join us and take the PLEDGE to STAND AGAINST RACISM?

SAR 2021

The theme of this year's Stand Against Racism is Racism is a Public Health Crisis.

The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the impact of systemic and structural racism on communities of color across health, education, justice, and economic sectors.

"Racism is a threat to public health." - The American Medical Association, November 2020

Structural racism plays a large role in determining the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and affects people's access to quality housing education, food, transportation, political power, and other social determinants of health.

Understanding and addressing systemic racism from this public health perspective is crucial to eliminating racial and ethnic inequities, and to improving opportunities and well-being across communities.

Join us for our virtual STAND AGAINST RACISM to spread our mission to eliminate racism. This year, our panel of community experts will raise awareness, provide resources, and comprehensive actions to improve public health in our community by dismantling systemic and institutional racism.

Let us STAND AGAINST RACISM together!

The YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 160 years -- from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. Today, we combine programming and advocacy in order to generate institutional change in three key areas:

Racial Justice and Civil Rights | Increasing equal protection and equal opportunity for people of color

Empowerment and Economic Advancement of Women and Girls | Increasing economic opportunities for women and girls of color

Health and Safety of Women and Girls | Improving the health and safety of women and girls of color

2021 Stand Against Racism Campaign and COVID-19

Due to CDC recommendations regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, our 2021 Stand Against Racism is fully digital. As we continue to practice social distancing, the Stand Against Racism campaign presents an opportunity to build community remotely and combat isolation.

Each share, tweet, and email helps us spread the word about YWCA Lower Cape Fear.
